SMS FAQ

v7,v6

SMS Status Old

SMS status old is for sms sent from a diary appointment.
If the appointment is moved and unconfirmed the status then changes to OLD.
If the appointment was moved or unconfirmed before the SMS was sent then it wouldn't send at all. If the appointment has been sent then the status still changes.
Eg. if appointment reminder sent saying client has appointment at 8am on Monday, then staff moved appointment to 2pm on Tuesday. The sms status would change to old. This give you indication the times/dates in the sms are now old and may no longer be relevant.

Linked Appointments

When doing a manual bulk send of SMS an SMS for each linked appointment will be sent.

SMS message parts

SMS Messages can only be sent 160 characters. So if we send a 499 character SMS the telco's will break up into smaller segments to send, then join up again on the clients phone. The segment are about 153 characters as it needs a few character to make the message join up again. So a 499 message is charged as 4 SMS.

It some cases you may notice the message is being split to more parts than expected.
It because of the bullet points.
The bullet points aren't in standard character set for GSM-7.
When it finds these bullet points it changes whole message to UCS-2 character set (which reduces to 67 character capacity per segment. So for a 499 character message sends 8 segments. It will go to UCS-2 if message contains emojis as well.

Its the same with the non standard characters for quotes, apostrophes etc..

So try to avoid those when clinics are setting up SMS

Note the telcos do this when they get message, its nothing to do with Vetlink.
